Heavy lifting equipment hire guide

Plan capacity, radius, access and set-up before choosing the crane. The goal: a controlled lift using the right crane and a documented plan.

Sequence of work

Four stages.

01

Define the load

Confirm the weight including rigging, plus dimensions, lift points and centre of gravity, from drawings or the manufacturer.

02

Plan the set-up

Mark the crane position, radius, outrigger pads, ground bearing capacity, services and exclusion zones on a site plan.

03

Select & permit

The crane company checks load charts at working radius and arranges lift plans, road permits and any escorts.

04

Lift & demobilise

Hold the pre-start meeting, control the exclusion zone and make the lift, then remove the counterweight and rigging.

Typical fleet

01Mobile slewing or all-terrain crane
02Franna for support lifts
03Spreader bars and rigging
04Counterweight transport
05Traffic management

Build the request around the outcome

Describe the finished work, quantities and programme before you lock in a machine. A supplier can only judge suitability when the brief includes material conditions, access, operating space, delivery constraints and the expected work pattern. Treat attachments and supporting plant as part of one production system.

Compare rates with transport, minimum hours, operators, fuel, service response and return requirements all visible. For regional work, find out where the proposed unit is now.
