Access Equipment hire Australia

Access equipment has to reach the workface and suit the floor or ground, the entry path and the rescue plan. Over-specifying reach costs money and can block access.

What access equipment can you hire?

Access Equipment Hire in Australia covers a range of machine types and sizes. These are the most commonly hired, and what each is typically used for:

MachineTypical use
Electric scissor liftsIndoor fit-out, ceilings and services on flat slabs
Rough-terrain scissor liftsOutdoor construction on compacted or uneven ground
Knuckle boom liftsUp-and-over access around structures and obstacles
Straight (telescopic) boomsMaximum outreach on facades, steel and large structures
Vertical & push-around liftsLow-level maintenance and narrow doorways
Truck-mounted EWPsStreet trees, signage, lighting and roadside work

Before you request a quote

A useful enquiry tells the supplier what has to be achieved, where the equipment will work and what could change the selection. Include dimensions, quantities, material conditions, dates, the delivery route, unloading area and any site compliance requirements.

Compare offers on the complete configuration: machine, attachments, operator (for wet or dry hire), transport both ways, minimum hours, fuel and return conditions. See how to read a plant hire quote.

Selection factors

Three things that change the answer.

01

Working height and outreach

Measure platform height and horizontal reach to the work, including obstacles in between.

02

Surface and entry path

Slab load limits, doorways, lifts, slopes and soft ground decide between electric, diesel and tracked units.

03

Licensing and rescue

Booms over 11 m generally need a high-risk work licence. Every job needs a rescue plan.

FAQ

Access Equipment hire questions.

Do I need a licence to operate a scissor lift?

A high-risk work licence isn't generally required for scissor lifts, but operators must be competent. Many sites expect a Yellow Card or equivalent EWP training.

Knuckle boom or straight boom?

Knuckle booms reach up and over obstacles. Straight booms give more horizontal outreach, which suits long facades and open steelwork.

Electric or diesel access equipment?

Electric units suit indoor, emission-sensitive and noise-sensitive work. Diesel and hybrid units suit rough outdoor terrain.

Can access equipment go on a suspended slab?

Only after the slab's load capacity is checked against the machine's wheel loads. Ask the supplier for point loads and an engineer for the slab rating.
