Define when you can actually work
Write down site access hours, the intended work periods and who will receive or collect the equipment. Ask when the supplier allows pickup and requires return. Those times may differ from the period when your site is available. A package that begins earlier can still provide less useful working time if transport or handover cannot be arranged within your schedule.
Separate elapsed time from usage
Ask whether the offer includes a stated engine-hour allowance and how additional usage is charged. Confirm the basis for equipment without an engine meter and whether a partly used day is charged differently. Do not assume a weekend package means unlimited operation. Put the included period and usage allowance next to each other in the comparison so both are visible.
Check support and consumables
Ask about weekend fault reporting, fuel, batteries, attachments and consumables needed to finish the work. Confirm operator arrangements and the unit's suitability before the depot closes. If self-collection is proposed, have the supplier confirm the transport requirements; do not assume a personal vehicle or trailer is suitable. Include delivery in the comparison when it is the practical option.
Arrange the return before starting
Clarify cleaning, refuelling, drop-off access and the process if the job overruns or the machine develops a fault. Record condition and meter readings at handover and return. Keep the supplier's acknowledgement for any extension. Where collection happens after the weekend, ask explicitly when charges stop and what responsibility remains while the equipment is waiting.
Put it into a practical brief
For a weekend landscaping job, compare the supplier's collection and return windows with the site's permitted work times. Ask for the included meter hours and the cost of exceeding them. Include the time needed for handover, transport, refuelling and cleaning when deciding whether the package suits the job. If work may continue into the following week, ask how an extension would be confirmed before the depot closes. Keep the recorded meter reading with the return evidence so the final usage charge can be checked against the offer.
